Albuquerque – My encounters with new voters of all ages is always informative and slightly entertaining. Some of our peers believe one has to vote for the egos nominated by the party of their affiliation. The tools of the Duopoly probably do not wish to correct this common misconception. I say “probably” because I was once one of those aforementioned hyper-partisan tools.

Another misconception is that Felons cannot participate in elections. Yes, and no. Felons can vote as long as one has served their time for the sentenced crime and aren’t on probation or parole. Additionally, the County Clerks office of the restorative voters registration must first receive a Certificate of Discharge from the New Mexico Department of Corrections. More info on Voter Restoration Rights here. If you’re a former Felon that has gone through this process I’d like to hear from you, ahdiaz@outlook.com.

Don’t allow the Presidential circus to deter you from participating in this election.

October 11th is the last day for voter registration in the 2016 election cycle. Election day is Tuesday November 8th, 2016. Register to vote here or at your County Clerk’s office. A clever new tool online instantly allows voters to look up a sample ballot of their November physical ballot. Voting on the interwebs might be ok for your annoying HOA but our national past time of physically hanging chads should not be interrupted…yet.

Early voting and absentee voting begins October 12th, 2016. Those who’ve moved or need to update their registration (change party affiliation) should consider re-registering. Don’t allow the Presidential circus to deter you from participating in this election. Down ballot races include Congressional and local races more often directly impact our daily ledgers and liberties than the Executive does. Bonds and Constitutional Amendments are also up for approval along with retention of Supreme Court and other Judges. I encourage you to do your research before making this commitment to your community, family, and future.
